“Being a hairdresser is something I was always interested in at school. I chose an apprenticeship instead of college as apprenticeships offer more work experience and more of an insight into what salons are actually like. Even when I’m not at the academy, watching all the other stylists in the salon means I’m always learning.
I chose KH Hair in Arnold after salon director, Dawn, visited a careers event at my school when I was in Year 9 and explained to me what the apprenticeship had to offer. After that visit, I kept hairdressing at the very top of my list.
An apprenticeship has given me a great opportunity to improve my confidence and social skills with the clients, which I love. I also get great satisfaction from learning something new from the training.
My goal is to qualify, become a stylist and then continue to develop my skills so I can progress to a senior stylist. I feel 100% supported by everyone at KH Hair and I can definitely approach them with anything I need to ask or say, and they will always help me.
I would DEFINITELY recommend an apprenticeship because, not only are we taught lots of theory, but we’re also learning and doing practicals most of the time. Apprenticeships offer lots of work experience and help to improve you as an individual, which is very beneficial to your future.”
And here’s the opinion of newly-qualified stylist, Sianna, also from KH Hair in Arnold.
“From an early age I have always loved doing my family’s hair and watching how it made them feel. This led me to realising my passion is to make people feel their best. I just LOVE transforming clients and seeing them leave happy.
I chose an apprenticeship as I knew I wanted to learn on the job and also enjoyed being on my feet. School never really was my thing… I had heard about KH Hair as many people had recommended the company to me. When I checked it out, I found it offered everything I was looking for!
I have always loved that, even when I wasn’t actually undergoing training, I was still learning from the girls around me and I still continue to learn every day. There’s always something to keep me busy.
The support from the team has been overwhelming. I love working with them all and they’re always there to answer any questions I may have and keep me motivated to always do better. I loved going to the academy once a week too as the tutors always made the learning fun and were full of support and advice.
Now I’ve qualified, I’m busy building my own column while continuing to help the girls with theirs and I love it! My goal is to build a client base while also continuing to grow my knowledge and confidence and, eventually, I would love to enter industry competitions.
While I have been at KH Hair, I have had the opportunity to be involved in creating the look for the annual Image of the Year Award, which I’m also taking part in this year and I’m always up for the additional training courses that KH Hair offer.
