Worried about your roots during lockdown?
Here are some top tips from KH Hair Colour Team member, Joanne (Charlie) Roe on how to help disguise them:
CHANGE YOUR PARTING
When you have a very prominent parting it’s a lot harder to hide those greys so I recommend changing it. Try a messy or zigzag parting or no parting at all, this will definitely help make them less visible.
ADD SOME TEXTURE
Go for more of a tousled wavy look as this will offer the perfect disguise. Add a bend in your hair using tongs and straighteners then don’t be afraid to mess it up.
Speaking of texture, you can get a similar effect using dry shampoo. Any type of dry shampoo whether it’s spray powder, clear or tinted, will tone down the appearance of your roots by adding volume. You can blur the line with one that matches your hair colour.
TRY A BRAID OR TWIST
A braid or twist is a great way to blend those roots. Have a look online for some tutorials on how to braid and twist your own hair.
PUMP UP THE VOLUME
To get additional lift at home, use a foam or root spray and a big round brush. If you don’t have one, put your head upside down for root lift. When dry you can use a comb to tease your hair to add body. This is great when you’re putting your hair up, because when your hair is first washed it can be too silky to pin up.
ADD AN ACCESSORY
There are some amazing hair accessories out there. Maybe try a beautiful embellished pin. This will offer a distraction to whatever is happening with your roots. If you’re looking for a complete coverage, try a chic scarf or headband instead.
COLOUR THEM IN
If you don’t fancy extra styling, grab a temporary root cover up. They are really easy to use and will only last until you next wash your hair. This way we won’t have a colour correction on our hands when the salon reopens.
