Mary and Jess ready to judge the BHA entries

To win Eastern Hairdresser of the Year at the 2018 British Hairdressing Awards was a dream come true for talented KH Hair stylists, Jessica Neil and Mary Geoghegan.

In recognition of their success, they were equally delighted and honoured to be invited to be part of the judging team for the 2019 awards.

Mary begins the difficult task of judging this year's BHA entries

Here’s what they said about their amazing experience.

Mary:

“To receive the invitation from Hairdressers Journal and Schwarzkopf to judge the first and second rounds of the British Hairdressing Awards 2019 was so exciting!.  Nothing could prepare me for the unreal feeling of being in a room, looking at all the fantastic entries and being surrounded by industry icons I have looked up to for many years.

To see all the collections side by side for the first time really did feel surreal and it was almost impossible to narrow down the top six for each category as the standard was extremely high.  This process really brought it home to us just how special it was to be awarded the incredible title of Eastern Hairdressers of the Year in 2018”.

Jess:

“We had been dreaming of winning a British Hairdressing Award for so long that we were completely blown away to hear our names read out at last year’s award ceremony. Being asked to judge, was an unexpected, additional honour.

To be standing in a room with 96 of the very best hairdressers in the UK was such an amazing feeling.  I couldn’t believe I was having casual chats and taking selfies with the likes of Sean Dawson and Jamie Stevens – two of my favourite and most respected hairdressers who I have been following throughout my whole career! What a truly amazing feeling.”

The standard was so very high and it was obvious how hard all the entrants had worked on their creations and shoots. Choosing my favourite six was a very difficult task indeed”.

Things got even better for Jess and Mary when it was announced they were through, once again, to the finals of the Eastern Category and, of course, they are sincerely hoping to hold on to their title this year.

Finalists will now submit four further images from their collections for the September judging round before hopping down to London for the grand final on the 25th November at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

We wish Jess, Mary and all this year’s finalists the very best of luck!
