Tutbury salon celebrates 10 year milestone

Mother and daughter team overcome many challenges on their way to success.

The team at KH Hair Tutbury is celebrating as the salon reaches a 10 year milestone trading in the town.

The award-winning salon, which opened in High Street in November 2008 has built up an enviable reputation for delivering excellent customer service from its talented and highly-experienced team. However, as salon directors, mother and daughter team, Jane LLoyd and Beckie Maznenko explain, it hasn’t all been plain sailing.

“When we purchased the salon in 2008, we arrived to find the entire workforce on their way out of the door.” says Beckie.  “This was the first time the KH Hair Group had taken over an existing business and the staff were not happy to be part of a franchise.  It was quite a shock but we had to react quickly to the situation, especially when we realised they had set up a rival salon in the town.”

Jane and Beckie implemented a recruitment drive with a focus on attracting young and ambitious trainees to undertake their qualifications via the KH Hair Training Academy, and ultimately follow a career as part of the Tutbury team.

Marketing via events, offers and local promotion was also key in advertising new staff and services as well as a digital marketing campaign targeting the salon’s customer database of regular and lapsed clients. “Training and investment in retail sales also proved crucial in turning profits around.” says Beckie.  “It’s been a long and sometimes gruelling process and it’s taken 10 years of sheer determination and hard graft, but the business is now thriving and is one of the best performing salons in the KH Hair Group with an increase in turnover every single year.”

KH Hair Tutbury has been named Salon of Year three times at the KH Hair Group’s annual award ceremony, beating off competition from 21 other salons across the East Midlands.  This year, the team also scooped the Salon Turnover Improvement Award and were delighted to make the finals of the British Hairdressing Business Awards in 2017.

“We have worked really hard to build up a loyal client base over the years and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support. “ adds Beckie.  “We are also extremely proud of our dedicated and highly-skilled team.  We have quite a unique way of working here.  There is no hierarchy.  Everyone mucks in at every level and I believe that’s one reason why we’ve been so successful.”

Here’s to the next 10 years!”
