KH Hair merges Creative and Colour Teams

KH Hair has announced the coming together of its award-winning Creative and Colour Teams in a move designed to inspire both the next generation of the Group’s East Midlands’ stylists, and the hairdressing industry as a whole.

The Creative Team was formed in 1985 and has regularly been involved in session work, photo shoots, and major industry shows. In 2014, KH Hair unveiled a brand new team with a focus on creating a central hub for colour couture across the Group’s 20 salons. Eleven years on, creative director, Darren Messias, says he feels the time is right to merge the two teams together to form one formidable centre of excellence for all things hair.

In 2024, the Teams joined forces in a collaboration with Wella Professionals to put together a new colour menu to promote new shades in Wella’s Illumina range. Darren says that’s when the idea was born. “Observing them working together, I could see they were pushing themselves to become even more creative,” he explains. “Playing on each other’s strengths and striving to become even more imaginative and artistic. It just made perfect sense to me to make this a permanent arrangement.”

Providing training for KH Hair’s salons and Training Academy is a core part of the Team’s mission and, when its members are not working their own column or participating in creative and competitive pursuits, they deliver bespoke training to the Group’s third-year apprentices and newly-qualified stylists.

“A big part of being a Team member is passing the knowledge forward,” says Darren. “They educate themselves on new trends/formulas etc on a regular basis. In-house training is delivered by Wella and they’ve also had sessions with industry icons including Andrew Dunne, Jordanna Cobella, HOB and Nicki Clifford.”

On 2nd July, by way of a launch and team-bonding day, the Creative Team members travelled together to the Sassoon Academy in London for a bespoke course in cutting and colouring. “They had a fabulous day,” says Darren. “They were inspired and motivated by the creativity delivered by the course and equally excited to learn new techniques which they can bring back into their salon work and training. They can’t wait to begin to pass on their new-found knowledge to other members of the KH Hair family.”

KH Creative Team

Individually, the Team members have been busy of late. Joanne Roe, Joanna Bishop and Bronte Wooding have been putting together their collections for this year’s British Hairdressing Awards. Newest and youngest member, Amelia Krasinski, has been taking part in stage presentations and attending monthly mentoring days in London as part of the Fellowship of British Hairdressing’s ClubStar Art Team. And, after months of training, studying and refining her skills as a colourist, Emily Dyer recently became the latest member to achieve the Wella Master Colour Expert (MCE) qualification, bringing the total of MCEs in the Team to seven.

The Team will continue to work closely with Wella to ensure all KH Hair salons have access to the very latest styling and colour innovations and products, and, through its creative session work, will be ideally placed to identify key trends, enabling them to advise clients in the salon about the best products for their hair type and the latest colours and fashion.

What does the future hold for the newly formed Creative Team? “Definitely more collaborations and training with Wella, both internally and externally,” he says. “It’s important that members push themselves to continue to learn and be creative and proactive. The top-up training delivered to our apprentices will also definitely continue. Our trainees are always inspired by our award-winning teams and working alongside them makes them feel excited for their own future in hairdressing. So, watch this space, as we have lots more coming up and plenty more to offer this fabulous industry.”
