Hair comes the sun!
Summer is well and truly knocking at the door and, while we’re pros when it comes to face and body SPF, it can be easy to forget our hair and scalp while we’re out enjoying the warmer weather.
Sun, chlorine and salt water can really take their toll on your hair, turning it into a colour-faded, dried out mess. And no one wants a burnt scalp… Ouch!
We asked some of our Creative Team members for their favourite in-salon products to help get your hair hydrated, shiny and in tip-top condition ready for those long summer days ahead.
Martin Quenault – KH Hair Ashby
It’s always good to keep your hair covered in the midday sun with a hat or a fashionable head scarf. This stops the hair drying out and protects your colour.
When swimming, use a leave-in conditioner. This will put a barrier around your hair and keep the cuticle scales smoother, protecting your hair from drying out in the chlorine and sun. After swimming, always use a shampoo to remove chlorine from the hair, as this can be very drying.
UV protection sprays are a great product to take on holiday. You just spray these over your hair before and during sun exposure, making your hair feel softer, moisturised, shiny, and protecting your colour. It’s almost like a sun cream for your hair!
All the above can be found in the Wella Invigo Sun Care packs which are available in KH Hair salons.

The summer heat itself can leave your hair feeling dry, so I’d recommend minimising straightening or curling. Embrace natural textures or go for loose braids.
You can always plait and leave in overnight to create beachy waves – just take out in the morning and add a spritz of dry shampoo to give you a perfect beachy feel.
If you DO want to use a heated appliance to style your hair, you can keep damage to a minimum by curling it. It will last longer than trying to keep it straight.
As each day goes on, the curl will loosen off and you should be able to get at least a few days wear. You can even create a little up do to get that extra day out of it.
*EIMI Dry Me is my best friend on days like that.
Use a weekly hair mask to restore moisture and shine to your hair. Luxe Oil Keratin Restore Mask is my favourite. It will add keratin protein and heap loads of moisture and shine onto your hair. (IMAGE – LUX OIL KERATIN RESTORE MASK)
As always, any damage is always best trimmed off, but regular cuts will always keep your hair in optimal condition, regardless of the time of year.
Lastly, don’t forget, hydration starts from within. Drinking plenty of water will really help keep your hair and scalp healthy.

Amelia Krasinski – KH Hair Arnold
The Wella Ultimate Smooth deep conditioning mask is an essential for your summer hair care routine. When your hair comes into contact with the sun, chlorine, salty water, along with frequent styling it can become dry and frizzy. This is where a mask comes in to give your hair the boost it needs. This staple product, once a week, will replenish lost moisture, smooth out and tame frizz, and restore softness and shine. It’s both strengthening and hydrating – perfect for summer and available in a travel size too!
Grab your travel essentials from the WELLA Solar range which has been designed and formulated to shield your hair from summer’s most damaging elements. It protects your hair from harsh UV rays whilst providing moisture and replenishment, also preventing that post-pool ‘green’ tone that blondes can often experience, keeping your colour bright and free from brassiness.
So, now is the time to get your hair summer-ready! All the team’s recommendations are available in your favourite KH Hair salon. Please ask your stylist for details.
We look forward to seeing you very soon!
