The team at KH Hair in Leicester has pledged a month of movement to help raise money for the Leicester Children’s Holidays charity.
The charity supports disadvantaged children throughout Leicestershire and Rutland, enabling them to enjoy holidays and short breaks, which are completely free and full of fun, food and joy. Throughout September, members of the KH Hair salon team have committed to undertake personal challenges ranging from ‘Couch to 5K’ to walking/running 200 miles to help boost the charity’s funds.
Salon director, Amanda Fall, who has pledged to walk/run 200 miles during the month, says her team is really looking forward to the challenge and to helping a great local charity. “I asked all the staff which charity they would like to support and they definitely wanted to choose something that would help local children.” she explains. “We were already aware of Leicester Children’s Holidays, as one of our clients was involved in it and, after listening to her speak, it was a clear choice.
“It’s a charity that has been around for a long time in Leicester and the children’s stories on the website make you weep. One of my clients has already thanked us for choosing is it, as she says it changed her life as a seven-year-old.”
Four of the salon’s youngest members, alongside salon manager, Joanne Roe, are undertaking the Couch to 5K challenge. The salon’s eldest staff member, Martin Chamberlain, will be mentoring them while he also takes on his own goal of 200 miles. Two other staff members have pledged to cover 100 miles on their feet.
The challenge will end on September 29th when all participants will join together to complete their final steps in Leicester’s Victoria Park. “I am extremely proud of my team as every one of them wants to be involved, which is amazing.” says Amanda. “I feel very emotional about raising money for this charity and I’m so lucky they are with me on it. We’ve already had a cake sale in the salon which raised £350. We have some good bakers! So, that’s a nice little start to our fundraising.
The salon, which is situated on Bowling Green Street, will also be holding a special charity event on Sunday 6 October. Between 11am and 3pm, the salon will be open for hair and beauty treatments at a reduced cost, with all proceeds going to the charity. To book, call the salon on 0116 255 3573.
