SIA BRAVES THE CHOP

A brave seven-year-old from Oadby has had her thigh-length locks chopped short to support a charity which makes wigs for children with cancer.

Sia Radhika Popat, who had never had her hair cut before, visited KH Hair on The Parade to have her hair cut short for Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.

Sia says she feels really good that her hair will  be used to help another child who doesn’t have the same privileges as her. “I told my Mum I felt ready for a change and that I wanted  to have shorter hair.” she says. “She told me about the Little  Princess Trust and we agreed that donating my hair made perfect sense as it would really help make a positive difference to another child’s life.”

Mum, Nital, who accompanied her daughter on the day of the chop, says Sia was really excited and not at all nervous. “She’d never even had a trim before and her hair had grown down to her thighs.” she says. “She had lovely curls at the bottom which we were sorry to lose, but she absolutely loves her new look and has received lots of positive comments and support.”

As well as donating her hair, Sia has been raising money to support The Little Princess Trust and has, so far, raised £367 for the charity.
