The hottest colours for autumn/winter 2022
We are now well and truly into autumn, and winter will soon be upon us. You may be thinking about a colour change to reflect the seasons, and who better to ask about the hottest trends around than two of our talented colourists who recently made it through to the final of this year’s Wella TrendVision Awards – Skye Lewis and Fern Middleton.
Skye, who works at KH Hair Leicester and was a finalist in the Colour Artist category, says autumn/winter 2022 is all about warmth.
“Within the last year, many major celebrities have dyed their hair red, with a copper shade being particularly popular. Stars like Kendall Jenner, Doja Cat and Zendaya, have veered off the typical hair colour change of blonde or brunette and opted for the more fiery red

“Recently, the classic face frame has evolved into more of a block focus point. This helps to brighten the look and complement the client’s complexion as it’s strategically placed around the hairline for an instant brightening and framing effect.”

“In between appointments this look can be easily adapted with different toners and glossing treatments. Also, the Color Fresh Mask from Wella is a great one for clients to take home to help keep their colour looking fresh for as long as possible.”
“Also appropriate for the season is what’s being called ‘expensive brunette.’ Over the past year, we’ve seen many blonde celebs like Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber trade in their blonde for a rich brunette colour and there are many shades to choose from including:
- Mocha chocolate
- Toasted caramel
- Mahogany
- Chestnut
- Bronze
- Ash brown

This trend is all about embracing the depth and richness of your natural dark roots. These brunettes give the hair energy, dimension and detail.”
Fern works at KH Hair Tutbury and was a TrendVision finalist in the Colour Specialist category. She agrees copper is popular this year. “Many celebrities have opted for this colour. I too love the Colour Fresh Masks. You can have them applied in the salon or take them home to brighten your colour between appointments. Shades include ‘copper glow’ and ‘peach blush.’ I love these tones and they are very conditioning on the hair. This beautiful colour was created by my salon colleague, Sophie. I love it!

Recently, many clients are asking to go deeper with their colour and are opting for a darker shade on the root. This look was created with Koleston Perfect+ and I’d recommend the Color Fresh Mask ‘golden gloss’ to keep it looking fresh and conditioned.”
